Washington insiders are saying that John Kerry is proving to be the laziest presidential candidate since Adlai Stevenson. For three days he has been hiding out at his wife's pickle farm in Pennsylvania without receiving important visitors of any kind, and tomorrow he heads for speeches in Cloquet, Minn., and Boomer, Wis., before stumping in Iowa river towns. Then it's back to one of his wife's mansions for Independence Day, remaining there Monday with nothing scheduled. There is speculation that Kerry will name a vice presidential running mate on Tuesday, but nothing is formally scheduled.

As one political pro put it: "The campaign is apparently operating on the premise that the less the public sees of this guy the better he will do. People just don't like him." Or, as former New York Times editor Howell Raines put it, Kerry has the personality of the Addams Family butler, Lurch, had he gone to Choate.

Its a brilliant strategy, one I have long said works best. While it would be nice to go out and stump everywhere, bottom line is this election is 110% about people's opinion of Bush. Kerry or anyone else that might have won could only lose it for themselves. Right now he is supposedly choosing a VP and keeping the schedule very thin so he can make the decision and announcement and then do a big swing after that.

Still once again when will people realize this election is all about one thing: do the people want W as their President another 4 years? Because if you really think any of these things Kerry says he stands for or Bush's people claim he stands for will ever pass you are dreaming. That is really the truth and the best way to work under that premise is stay fairly quiet and when you talk, talk about big fuzzy things that aren't articulated into action because that action will just go nowhere in Congress.
